ESSENTIAL CHUCK AND KELLY AUDIO

OUR BLOG FROM THE MOST RECENT POST

5/20/10

It's time to congratulate Chuck on his return to B95.5!  We are both very excited for him and celebrate the end of his unemployment.  Chuck spent over 14 years at B95.5 from it's inception.  He worked with Diane Donato for many years and in 2002 it became the Chuck and Kelly Show.  Now he will morph again into "The Breakfast Club" with Chuck and Laura.

To all of our wonderful and supportive fans, we hope you can see this as a glass half full, and enjoy your mornings with Chuck once again.  Enjoy this beautiful beginning of summer!

It's my 25th anniversary today.  My husband and I went to Ottawa for a mini vacation while our daughter went to a prom in Ogdensburg.  Turns out it was a lot of fun and a really nice city.  Hope all is well with anyone following our blog and exploits.

Still looking for a regular on air position for both of us.  I'm still working utility (fill in when needed) on Talk 1300.  Always loved talk radio, but I know some of our listeners prefer a less intense format.  Just did 3 days in the morning for my boss and yesterday the afternoon show.  With the good weather coming, more vacations are coming up.

Chuck has been keeping busy and spending lots of time with the family while sending out audio to radio stations in different parts of the country.  The local possibility we thought might come through looks like it won't be happening.  We gave it a good shot, but some things just aren't meant to be.  We'll keep you posted and with luck, you will be able to listen to at least one of us on a music station you like over the internet.  Enjoy the Spring and the better weather, and keep in touch.

So, what's up?  Thanks, again for all the kind letters.  It has been 6 months since we were on the air together.  This week, we had a woman write that it would be nice if we could syndicate a show so we could get back on the air.  She is tired of morning radio in the Capital District and wants to have some fun again, and would be willing to pay for it.  We both appreciate the sentiment.  We continue to remain hopeful, knowing the one thing you can count on in life is change.  Something will change and opportunities will open up.

In the glass is half full department, it's nice to know that you don't have to do much to make someone happy.  Last week, I (Kelly) went to a musical featuring my former dance teacher (and partner in Dancing with the Albany Stars) Chad in a show called Side by Side Sondheim at Schenectady Light Opera.  It's still there this weekend and he was wonderful.  I alse went to my friend Matt's 32 birthday party at Bombers in Schenectady.  Sharing some special time with people is so important and really means a lot.  So, go out and do something nice for someone today, or tomorrow, or sometime this week.  Love ya,

Chuck and Kelly

2/28/10

It's the end of another month and we are all still alive and kicking.  When you think that things aren't as good as they should be, it's always a good time to think of what is good in your life.  Family, friends, health, a roof over your head and the COBRA subsidy extension.  We are hoping for an unemployment extension for those who remain out of work and can't find a job after 6 months.

A good friend of ours passed away last week.  Tim Stokes was a voice you probably heard a lot if you listened to us on BUZZ 105.7.  He was in the production department, which means he would be the voice of commercials and public service announcements.  He was shoveling that heavy wet snow when it happened.  Our condolences to his family.  Tim left Regent Communications about 5 or 6 months before we left during a round of budget cuts.  He was a good friend to us and he will be missed.

Another friend of ours, Al Roney, was just let go from WGY, where he did a talk show from 9-12.  He is a family man and longtime Capital Region resident and we feel his pain.  Our prayers are with him to find a new position in or out of radio where his talents will be appreciated.  When they say for every action there is a equal reaction, you know it's true.  The ripples from one change affect people on the other side of town.  Our friend Steve VanZandt was let go from WROW when that talk station closed down to make way for the Magic format that was operating on 100.9FM.  There is a new format now on that station and with WROW talk eliminated, Glenn Beck (the national talk show and TV host) became available.  WGY picks up Glenn Beck and Al Roney is out.

Radio is a tough business, as we both know too well.  We look forward to the day when the economy is really better and the radio stations of the Capital Region can again provide more local programming without a lot of national and recorded shows.  The public deserves it and we believe you know the difference.  Otherwise, there will be less radio listening and more ipod, satellite and CD's.

For the time being, I (Kelly) will continue on the one station that is devoted to live, local talk in the Capital Region, Talk1300AM.   And, we hope that you will continue with your supportive e-mails as Chuck continues his job search.

Our best, always,

Chuck and Kelly

I thought you might get a kick out of seeing a letter we just received about the show.

I know it's been a couple of months since you've been off the air, but I just wanted to say that you are still missed!!!  I can't find anything good to listen to in the morning... half the time I just leave the radio off!

I guess all good things must come to a close, but these local radio stations are CRAZY for letting you go.  I'm assuming it has something to do with money and politics (since that's what EVERYTHING revolves around).  Some places just don't know a good thing if it slaps them in the face!

Frankly, I don't listen to either of the radio stations you used to be on (b95 or buzz) anymore...

But, I hope you're both doing well and are staying afloat during these economic times!  I also hope you continue to update your blog!  And I think it would GREAT if you could both find a morning show together!!  =)

Sincerely, an old listener...
Aimee

We really appreciate all of your letters and we hope that you will keep in touch.   We have been in touch with some local stations and really can't say much more than that.  Keep us in your thoughts and  keep your fingers crossed for something positive to happen.   We miss you and hope to be back on the air soon.

In honor of our favorite team we're green!  Go Saints, stay undefeated in the MAAC, won't you?  We're both doing fine.  Chuck has a nice opportunity in the south, keep your fingers crossed.  We hope you all had a great New Years and we're all looking forward to the Superbowl.  I'm rooting for the commercials.  I'll give Chuck a free square if he comes to my party...That'll seal the deal.

Kelly is soooooo happy Lost is back.  Sorry it's the last season, but really want to get answers to those nagging questions.  Idol is finally in the competitive stage, so I'll start watching this week.

Mr. Thrifty is at it again, telling me how I can save on coffee.  Price Chopper has Central Market's own "Donut Shop Blend", He now runs on Chopper, only $3.50.    I've been doing a lot of fill in on Talk 1300 and I've heard from a few of you, thanks for listening.  We are all looking forward to Spring and the nicer weather, feel free to drop us a line any time.

Hi, and Merry Chiristmas to all.  Chuck and I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  Things have been mixed since the show was cancelled.   This is a very tight job market and normally there isn't a lot of movement between Thanksgiving and the New Year.  We are all hoping that something wonderful will come along for Chuck in the coming year.  For me, I have been blessed with 2 great careers.  I (Kelly) have always had an independent insurance adjustment business during my time working on the radio.  This has been very good to me and I am grateful for the amazing support of friends in that business who have kept me busy since September.  I am also happy to say that I have been busier on the air than I expected, with a lot of holiday time off for my on air co-workers at Talk 1300.  Dan Lynch will be returning to Florida, after spending some time promoting his new book and I'll be filling in for him this Wednesday, December 23.   Chuck has been catching up on so many personal matters, sometimes a little break can be a good thing.  Come the first of the year, he'll be pursuing all kinds of job openings, so we wish him the best with that.

Blessings to all of you this Christmas season.  We'll catch up again soon.

11/24/09

It's been a little while since we wrote on our blog.  We hope you are getting ready for a great Thanksgiving.  It seems like every day both Chuck and I think about something that's going on that we wish we could talk to you about in the morning.  So far, there has been no new news on the job front.  Chuck and I will be together for Thanksgiving at my house.  On Black Friday, you'll be able to listen to me (Kelly) on Talk 1300 from 3:00 - 4:30.  The Siena game is on after that, GO SAINTS.  Then, on Wednesday morning, December 6, I'll be on Talk 1300 in the morning from 7:30 - 10:00.  That'll be fun, I hope Chuck calls in and we can have a mini Chuck and Kelly morning.  We enjoy hearing from you, so write whenever you like.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Audio from the show: A half hour of the show without music which includes our 1955 Housekeeping article

So, what's going on?  Chuck has been talking to some people about work out of state.  Kelly has been working in her back up career, independent insurance claims.  She landed a great assignment taking care of some cases while they look for a permanent replacement.  We are still getting a lot of mail from folks who wish we could be back on the air in the morning together.  We are all making adjustments :(   Meanwhile, we hope you are enjoying some of our audio postings, and we will keep you up to date on any changes with us.  Happy Halloween!

It's been one month, and we're still hanging in there.  Just to catch up, I (Kelly) finished the week filling in for Dan Lynch on Talk 1300.  Heard from a few old friends...thank you.  My daughter had her Sweet 16 dance party last night and it was so much fun.  John and I catered it ourselves at the Westmere FD, and we were on our feet all night.  The dogs were screaming this morning.

Chuck took a nice trip to Long Island and spent some quality time with his sister.   He sent some audio of our show to a station in Florida, so keep your fingers crossed.  Almost all stations stream on-line, so if we get something on the East Coast, you'll be able to at least listen to us on the computer in real time.  I've heard the internet stream will be available in cars at some point in the not too distant future.  Won't that be amazing?

I'll be on with Paul Vandenburgh on Talk 1300 for a while tomorrow morning around 9:30, then an hour for Fred Dicker from 10-11am.  Happy Columbus Day everyone and enjoy the 3 day weekend if you get it.

Chuck is catching up with his sister and other friends.  The job hunt continues.

Kelly will be filling in for Dan Lynch for his afternoon talk show on TALK 1300 today and all next week from 3-6pm.  Feel free to give a listen and call on some interesting topics.  You can tune to 1300AM, or on-line at www.talk1300.com

We're doing our best to keep you up to date on what we are doing.  Continued thanks for all the very nice e-mails we are receiving.

9/26/09

Kelly will be filling in on TALK1300 next week on Monday from 10-11am.  Not exactly coming out of retirement, but it'll be fun to take some calls and talk to some old friends.  For those of you who don't know, Paul Vandenburgh, who used to run AM590, purchased 1300AM and started TALK1300, which has become the station in Albany with the most live, local talk.  Kelly did a midday talk show on AM590/WROW before joining Chuck on B95 in 2002.  Both stations were owned by Albany Broadcasting.

On the job front, not much going on in the Albany area.  We've been looking at openings as far away as Long Island, for the both of us, and Chuck is still also considering Florida, a favorite haunt.

We would like to, again, thank everyone for their e-mails of support.  Thanks for stopping by the website.

9/22/09

Just wanted to post a note to thank everyone for their kind and supportive e-mails.  I am tempted to post some of them, but I won't..LOL  That would be like showing you too many baby pictures.

In any event, we got through the first week of our separation from the morning show.  It's been tough because we know how hard it is to change a routine. Kelly is still getting into her jammies at 8:00 and heading to the bedroom, even though she can sleep until 6:00am.  Chuck has been enjoying a little down time and getting some rest.

Most everyone has been asking about where we will be next.  At this point, that is not clear.  We will keep the website updated with any news of where we might be.   Thanks, again, for all your support and e-mails.

MESSAGE TO OUR LISTENERS ABOUT THE SHOW 9/15/09

As you may have heard, the Chuck and Kelly Show on BUZZ 105.7 has been cancelled.  The last show aired September 11, 2009.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who followed our show from B95 to BUZZ 105.7.  It's been an interesting journey, and one thing we experienced frequently was change.  For those of you who were with us from the start, and for those of you we met along the way, we sincerely thank you for listening.

So many times we would meet people and they would tell us that listening to the show was like sitting down with friends at the kitchen table for coffee.  That was exactly the way we felt about it, too.  Every morning hanging out with friends and talking about whatever was on our minds.

Although the reasons why BUZZ 105.7 management chose not to renew our contract should be left for them to explain, clearly, the economic downturn has affected all media.  We have to remember that radio is show business.  There have been a lot of good, quality TV shows cancelled, not because they were bad, but they just didn't garner the viewship fast enough.  It works that way in radio, too.  Buzz was a brand new station to this market, and with all of the options available, it's not always easy for people to find a new signal without endless advertising in many different forums.  We were always grateful that you found us, and were so loyal to the show.

If you have lost your job, we feel your pain.  It can happen to anyone, and we hope that you will be back to work soon.  Remembering that when one door closes, another will open, is how we will all keep a positive attitude.  Please feel free to e-mail us anytime.

We will miss spending time with you every morning, but we will keep you advised on what we are doing and whether we will be back on the radio together or separately.  Thanks, again, for listening...and, God Bless
